Hi folks,
Just a quicky,,,, i have a friend who has a small business and is using MS Windows "003 server on a small server,,,, and from that in the office enviroment there are 5 people who can be on the network at any given time,,,, So from that i'm presuming it must have a multiuser licensefor the OS, each attached pc is using XP pro which again i'm presuming is licensed... OK, now one of the users works from home and would like to be able to access the server via his licensed works laptop to get emails, sync up, and access a public drive they have set up.... now the provider of the server and op system has said , oh yes, you will need a remote user licence to do that and the minimum is a five user,,,,,,(Expensive)... now my question is, if his laptop or himself is already covered under the multiuser licence for in the office why is he not covered to access the server from home after all he's not using it at the office and at home at the same time is he,,,,, and its only a matter of a config change within the router to let him in from the WAN side,,,, (BTW the laptop is what he uses in the office as well, he dosn't have a desktop at the office.....
Can anyone shed any light on this,,, i think the supplier is trying to get money for old rope...... any help appreciated..
:-(
