    Default emulator..

over the years i have had many consoles form the obvious snes/nes, master system/mega drive to the not so common pc engine/coleco vision and can now
enjoy most of the previous systems on my pc with progams that emulate them to a tee.

one of the latest systems to get the treatment seems to be the sega dreamcast and its coming along just nice and will have its place on my pc along with mame and such.

you know what, the pc can emulate/play everything well... apart from the one thing it should........older pc games.

older pc games have little or no place on the pc, why is this..

ok i have tried virtual pc and installed winXP but its got little or no options, i cant use the gfx card thats in the pc either and thats just pants..

other than a dual boot what does everyone else use....??

if i dont get a go on nfs 6/hot persuit 2, revolt or crimson skies soon i will fookin explode...

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

You could create a VMWare image with Win 95 installed and play some older games on that. It's what I do for a few games.

Crimson Skies - Not played that in a while!

I'd love to be able to play dungeon keeper properly on my pc. I loved that game. I did buy it form a charity shop but it ran so quick it was uncontrollable.

    I use
which has run all the older games I've wanted to play.
Just run the "install.bat" for the old game and setup the soundcard etc, then drag the game exe onto the DosBox icon on your desktop.

Another vote for DosBox here. You should check out the abandonware rings, home of the underdogs particularly. Fire & Ice, Lost Dutchmans Mine etc...

i think dosbox is for even older games than the ones i want..

infact the older dos games can be played in a few diff ways but the win98 and early xp ones i want fail.

has anyone ever even had compatability mode for winXX work, i'll be fucked if i have ever had it do anymore than maybee stop or change an error message.

Yeah, loads of times, but aswell as changing the compatibility setting you must also run the programme as an administrator.

I've also got a few Emulators on my system, I recently had a huge bout of nostalgia! At the moment I'm using Fusion for Megadrive games. It also loads Master System, Game Gear and Mega CD games. I've also installed PSXfin for PS1 games and PCSX2 for PS2 games.

The PS2 emu is good, I've had FF XII and Shadow of the Colossus running but there is noticeable slowdown with the latter.

I cant for the life of me get GT4 to work properly. It works fine right up until the point where your race is about to start but as soon as it loads your car all you can see is the HUD. The rest of the screen is pixel snow. What's even more weird is that the game is actually running, it's just that the graphics are fooked. To make it even more of a kick in the nuts, once you quit race you can watch the fooking replay perfectly!!!!!

For old PC games I used DosBox.

List of games I have been mostly playing on my Emulators.

    Sonic Spinball
    Desert Strike
    Final Fantasy 8
    Shadow of Colossus

Also downloaded Descent but it's a bit glitchy even with DosBox. Also, I tried Syndicate which was one of my first ever PC games. Even though I have some great memories of it, it was like watching an old cartoon of Danger Mouse. Shit.

Recently been blasting through Einhander and CMR2 on PSX Emu on the PC - get in!

As for running older PC games, I know what you mean. I wonder if the likes of Leisure Suit larry 1 will run under dosbox? Only one way to find out...

"Revolt" - damn we had so much fun on link-up with that game in me mates loft. We spent most of the night trying to get the damn network running - bloody BNC connectors, lol.

got emulators for everyting here. love my old amiga games so use winuae a lot. Been using my 360 controller as well to play on my PSX emu. Wipeout 2097! Amezzin.

agree with other guys here that dosbox is ace for older skool games, and a vmware machine with 98 on for games like Dungeon Keeper (amazing game).
